He remains in hospital in a stable condition, police said today.

A 32-year-old man from Upton was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

He has been taken to a police station in Merseyside where he is currently in custody and being questioned by detectives.

Police and forensics remain at the scene on Colbert Close this afternoon where a cordon is in place around the front of a house.

Photos taken at the scene on Sunday show a forensic tent outside a house on the street and scientific support vans parked outside.

Officers are carrying out forensic, CCTV and witness enquiries in the area this afternoon.

Detective Inspector Paula Furlong said: “Although a man has been arrested in the nearby area we are still in the early stages of our investigation as we try and piece together exactly what happened this morning on Colbert Close.

“We understand this will be a shocking incident for neighbours and residents in the local community.

"Patrols will remain in the area to gather information and I would ask anyone who witnessed the incident, or has CCTV or video doorbell footage, to please contact us.”
