A group of teenagers charged with attempted murder over an attack on a 17-year-old that left him in a coma fighting for life has faced Queensland courts.
The victim was asleep when he was attacked by a gang of youths in a Brisbane unit about 3am on Saturday, police say. They then fled the scene.
The 17-year-old suffered horrific injuries and remains in serious condition.
Detectives have charged 10 teenagers aged between 15 and 19 - but cannot rule out further arrests.
Two teens charged as adults - Dut Acot, 19, and Lasender Sheriff, 18, appeared in the Brisbane arrests court on Thursday.
Both face charges of attempted murder and grievous bodily harm, and were remanded in custody.
Acot's case was adjourned for a committal mention on September 27.
Sheriff was remanded for a bail application on September 14.
The remainder of the accused teens were to face Children's Court, with the media denied access.
Police believe a bitter rivalry between two groups of youths might be behind the brutal assault.
"We suspect there is some form of potential retaliation between two groups of these young people," Detective Superintendent Tony Fleming said.
