Attempted murder accused 'stabbed man in the neck'

A man accused of attempted murder after another man was stabbed in the neck has appeared in court.

Police were called to reports of a serious assault in Bootle, at around 5.10pm, on Saturday, June 6 this year.

Officers found 39-year-old Darren Nolan with a stab wound to his neck and lacerations to his arm and torso.

He was taken from the junction of Summers Avenue and Stewart Avenue to hospital, where fortunately his injuries did not prove to be life threatening.

A 26-year-old woman, from Litherland, was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent, and Anthony Cousins was then arrested in the following days.

This morning Cousins, 31, of Summers Avenue, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court, via video link from HMP Liverpool.

He spoke only to confirm his personal details and to plead not guilty to the charge of attempted murder.

Andrew Ford, prosecuting, said Cousins' trial would be estimated to last four to five days.

Judge David Aubrey, QC, fixed the trial for December 7 this year.

He remanded Cousins in custody until his trial.
