Attacker wearing a Rangers football jersey punched stranger in the street

A yob wearing a Rangers football top is being hunted after a town centre attack.

He struck without warning on Saturday night in the centre of Renfrew.

It happened in the main Hairst Street close to a number of pubs.

His victim, aged 22, had been out for the night in one of the local bars when he was approached by a mystery thug.

Renfrew Inspector Damian Kane said there was some sort of verbal exchange, but the men did not know each other.

Ins Kane said: “There was an interaction and the victim was then punched him once in the mouth.

“This caused a facial injury which did not require hospital treatment.”

It happened around 11pm and police are now seeking a name for the attacker.

He is described as wearing a Rangers top with a grey tracksuit bottoms. He is around 6ft tall and has dark hair.

Inspector Kane added: “He wanted off after the attack and officers are carrying out local enquiries.

“We are also reviewing CCTV footage and seeking information from witnesses.”

Call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 4264 of September 11.
