Atletico president gives Saul Niguez transfer update and makes Liverpool claim

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has provided an update on the future of Saul Niguez amid reported interest from Liverpool.

The Reds have been consistently linked with the Spain international in recent weeks, as they look for a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum.

It’s not just Liverpool that have been linked with the 26-year-old, though, with Barcelona also supposedly in the race for his signature.

It has been claimed in various reports that a potential swap deal involving Antoine Griezmann could be on the cards with their La Liga rivals.

However, Cerezo has hinted that may not be what happens, and has teased an update on Saul’s future will be announced soon.

“I have no idea, they haven't told me anything, I don't know anything,” Cerezo is quoted telling Mundo Deportivo .

“I do not know how the negotiations are, not even if there are, but there is little left for you to know what is going to happen.

“In the world of football everything is possible but in Griezmann's case I have no idea, nor have I asked.”

When asked specifically about Saul, Cerezo admitted that he does not know if Liverpool have made a move to bring him to Anfield.

Cerezo said: “A lot of people will ask about all the players, as always, but in this case I don't know if Liverpool has acted.

“We do have a technical service that does it very well and that will be aware of everything.”
