Atletico Madrid transfer announcement appears to confirm Rodri to Man City is on

Manchester City are pushing ahead with their plans to sign Rodri - and it appears Atletico Madrid are already resigned to losing their man.

The Spain international is wanted by Pep Guardiola to succeed Fernandinho in the midfield anchor role and is believed to have told Atletico he wants to depart.

A £62.5m move to the Premier League champions is expected to be completed shortly - and a transfer announcement by the La Liga club has suggested the move is definitely on.

Diego Simeone's side officially unveiled the signing of Marcos Llorente from local rivals Real Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano on Friday.

But the midfielder was presented with his new shirt - the number 14, previously worn by Rodri.

It appears to confirm the midfielder is set to leave in order to head to the Etihad, where he will strengthen Guardiola's squad.

Llorente, meanwhile, seems to be a direct replacement for the outgoing 23-year-old, who only joined the club from Villarreal last summer.

Despite his links to their arch rivals, Llorente vowed to "fight" for his new No.14 shirt.

He said: "My Madridista past came naturally. It was the best thing for me.

"I come with hard work and commitment to fight for this shirt."

The club will make a huge profit on Rodri, having spent just £18m plus add-ons to sign him last summer.

They will more than double their money by allowing him to join City, who are keen to have a plan in place to move on from Fernandinho, 34, as he enters the latter stages of his career.
