Atletico Madrid suffer shock defeat to Real Mallorca ahead of Man City Champions League clash

Atletico Madrid suffered defeat to Real Mallorca on Saturday as they prepare for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie with Manchester City on Wednesday night.

Diego Simeone's tactics were hounded on Tuesday evening after Atleti failed to take a single shot on goal against the Blues. They also mustered just 30% possession.

It would end up being a similar story this weekend as the La Liga side did not have a shot inside the first 45 minutes. They did improve on that stat in the second-half but hosts Mallorca scored the all-important goal in the 68th minute.

Vedat Muriqi dispatched a penalty for La Liga strugglers to give them the lead. Although Atletico went on to have more of the ball they could not make it count and they ultimately slipped up in their attempts to reach the Champions League next season with Real Betis now breathing down their neck.

Pep Guardiola's team hold a 1-0 advantage as they head to the Wanda Metropolitano in midweek. Before that game, City must face Liverpool in a crucial match at the top of the Premier League on Sunday knowing a win would be huge for their hopes of lifting the Premier League title.
