Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez speaks out on Manchester United transfer rumours

Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez has admitted he was flattered by rumours linking him with a move to Manchester United.

The Spanish midfielder has been repeatedly linked with a move to United in recent years after the club scouted him while David Moyes was in charge in 2014.

Speculation was rife a few months ago that Saul could be Old Trafford bound this summer, having received personal praise from United great Rio Ferdinand.

The former defender described him as a ‘very, very good player’ that could bring a host of much-needed qualities to United’s midfield.

“Well, honestly, very well,” he told Spanish publication Marca when asked about the rumours linking him with a move to United.

“I am very flattered that a club like Manchester United, or other teams that ask about me, take me into consideration. For me it is very positive.

“And important people from those clubs [such as Ferdinand] speaking well of me means that I am doing things well at Atletico Madrid.”

Before he continued on whether Atletico should have been concerned by the rumours: “I think not, and [those feelings] have never been transmitted to me from the club “

The MEN understands that United have no current interest in Saul and that their priorities lie elsewhere this summer, especially after the signing of Donny van de Beek last week.
