Chelsea have until Friday to sign a forward.
The January transfer window has been open since the beginning of the month, but as of yet the Blues haven't made a signing despite Frank Lampard admitting he wants to bolster his attacking options.
"In attacking areas, because we need to be more clinical," he said when asked about his priorities following the 1-0 defeat by Newcastle United. "I wouldn’t say 'a goalscorer' but we need to be more clinical in the box in terms of our front line.
"When we attack and spend a lot of time around the opposition's box, we have chipped in with some goals from midfield and have people who can arrive from midfield, but the broader reality is that we need more goals from the front line."
One player who has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge is Paris Saint-German striker Edinson Cavani.
The 32-year-old is out of contract at the Parc des Princes in the summer and has already submitted a transfer request amid links to the Blues as well as Manchester United.
"Edinson Cavani has asked to leave this month," PSG sporting director Leonardo revealed when speaking after the 1-0 win against Lorient in the Coupe de France last weekend.
However, Atletico Madrid are the only club to have submitted a bid for the Uruguay international.
"We are studying the situation. We had an offer from Atletico Madrid, we did not accept it," Leonardo added.
The good news for the Blues is that Cavani won't be heading to Old Trafford, but the bad news is that The Athletic are claiming that the Uruguayan prefers a move to La Liga.
And he could become an Atletico player in the coming days.
According to RMC Sport, via Get Football News France, the La Liga outfit - who were held to a goalless draw by Leganes on Sunday - will launch a second bid for Cavani on Monday.
Furthermore, the report states that Atletico will increase their original offer of €10m (£8.4m) by €5m (£4.2m) which means the second bid will be in the region of €15m (£12m).
Although, PSG are said to be holding out for €25m (£21m), as that would enable them to comply with FFP regulation rules.
With that said, it's understood that Madrid are confident their improved bid will be enough to convince PSG thus handing a blow to Chelsea in their search for a new forward with deadline day fast approaching.
