Atletico Madrid put Arsenal and Tottenham on red alert over Thomas Lemar transfer

Atletico Madrid are reportedly ready to listen to offers for Thomas Lemar this month.

France international Lemar, 24, moved to the Spanish capital from Monaco in the summer of 2018 but has failed to live up to expectations.

Tottenham and Arsenal have been linked with a move for Lemar, who could be available on loan with the option to buy.

Goal reports Atletico are ready to consider his departure although Arsenal are not believed to be in the mix.

The Gunners are only likely to consider loan deals this month and Lemar is not thought to be a priority, although that situation could change.

Tottenham are weighing up a move though with Jose Mourinho keen to add attacking options.

Spurs may be forced to pay a loan fee of over £5m to take Lemar to north London, with the option of a £51m permanent deal in the summer.

Lemar is keen to move this month with Spurs offered the chance to sign him, reports the Independent.

Atletico boss Diego Simeone opened the door to a January exit when he discussed Lemar's future last week.

"Facts speak better than words. Lemar is an important player who hasn't been able to develop his game but who has characteristics that others don't have.

"Let's hope he has a good moment when he comes back from injury.

"Now, if Lemar can stay or not... we know that agents work in an exemplary way. Clubs work in terms of the needs of the clubs. But, as a footballer, every time he has been available, he's played a lot more than he hasn't played.

"His characteristics have always excited me. But he hasn't been able to live up to expectations."
