Atletico Madrid now leading chase for Nottingham Forest flop Rafa Mir - report

Nottingham Forest flop Rafa Mir could be off to Atletico Madrid this summer according to fresh reports surfacing in Spain.

Marca claim the Wolves striker is wanted by the Spanish giants following an excellent few months with Huesca where he netted nine goals in 18 games.

He was a pivotal figure as he helped the club to promotion to La Liga and his form has now drawn the attention of several top European sides.

Wolves are prepared to cut their losses on Mir who endured a very unproductive spell at Forest where he failed to score in 13 appearances at the City Ground and his loan ended in early January.

But he has rediscovered his scoring touch and Marca claim he is now highly-coveted by Madrid's sporting director Andrea Berta.

They say: “Berta follows the former Valencia player since he was in the Mestalla cadet team and a powerful player, with great control of the air game, supportive in the defensive game, with a goal and ability to play with his back to goal, he finds it interesting.

“The seven goals scored after the league break have made Rafa Mir one of the most desired footballers in the First Division market .

“While Huesca is fighting to continue counting on the attacker in their squad next season, there are many offers that Wolverhampton has on the table for a footballer who, almost certainly, will play in LaLiga next season.”

Mir is on loan at Huesca until the end of 2021, and they also have the option to make his move permanent.
