Atletico Madrid confirm signing of Luis Suarez from Barcelona on two-year deal

Atletico Madrid have announced the signing of Luis Suarez from Barcelona on a two-year deal for a fee of around €6million.

Suarez said goodbye to Barcelona in an emotional press conference on Thursday, before travelling to Madrid for a medical on Friday and the transfer has now been officially confirmed by the Rojiblancos.

"Welcome, Luis Suarez!" Atletico said on their website. "The Uruguayan is a new player for the Rojiblancos and has signed for the next two seasons."

Atleti went on to say that the 33-year-old had passed his medical examination earlier in the day and put pen to paper on a new deal at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Suarez, who scored 198 goals in 283 appearances as a Barcelona player, links up with international team-mate Jose Maria Gimenez at Atletico, with the capital club also in talks to sign Uruguay midfielder Lucas Torreira from Arsenal on loan and linked with a move for out-of-contract Celeste forward Edinson Cavani as well.

The former Barcelona, Liverpool and Ajax forward will be officially presented to the media later on Friday.
