Atletico Madrid are confident of confirming the signing of Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso .
The 28-year-old left-back flew out to Madrid on Friday, two days after watching Chelsea’s Europa League win over Arsenal from the bench in Baku.
Despite the impending departure of Maurizio Sarri from Stamford Bridge, Alonso wants out and has been waiting for the two clubs to agree a deal.
Current Atletico left-back Lucas Hernandez is moving to Bayern Munich this summer.
Veteran Felipe Luis, a former Chelsea player, is also in line to leave Wanda Metropolitano before the beginning of next season.
The Spanish club are also losing Diego Godin to Inter Milan, and 34-year-old Juanfran, who is leaving the club.
Atletico have plenty of money to spend after agreeing an £80 million fee with Bayern for the sale of Hernandez, and they've targeted Barcelona's Nelson Semedo as one man who could help fill the void.
Boss Diego Simeone is keen to have the Portuguese full-back operating on the opposite flank to Alonso.
Semedo has reportedly made a request for Barca to consider Atletico's £22m offer for him, although the Catalans are not thought to be interested in selling.
They could be persuaded though if it can be agreed as part of a deal to take Antoine Griezmann to the club.
Griezmann has announced previously he is leaving the Wanda Metropolitano, with Barca the current front runners for his signature.
In order to raise funds for a transfer though, Barca must first offload players, with several first-teamers including Philippe Coutinho, Malcom and Denis Suarez all reportedly up for sale.
Given that Semedo has been sharing the right back role with Sergi Roberto this season, a player-plus cash deal for Griezmann would be an ideal solution.
Barca rate Semedo at £31m, while Griezmann's release clause will be £106m this summer.
