Atletico Madrid ace wants £13.5m Tottenham transfer as Serie A club enter Jan Vertonghen race

Here is the Spurs morning digest on Sunday, May 31.

Stefan Savic interested in Spurs move - report

Atletico Madrid centre-back Stefan Savic would reportedly be interested in a move to Tottenham if his valuation is met.

Per Todofichajes, Savic is keen on a move to Spurs as he seeks more playing time after an injury-hit campaign limited him to 19 appearances under Diego Simeone. Now 29, Savic likely has one major move remaining, and Spurs could represent a nice landing spot for him.

Madrid reportedly value the former Manchester City man at €15 million, which is a far more palatable price than other targets have been quoted at, including Dayot Upamecano who was linked with Spurs earlier in the season.

Jose Mourinho would certainly like to add a centre-back this summer. While Toby Alderweireld committed his future to the team earlier in the year, Jan Vertonghen is set to depart on a free transfer and only Davinson Sanchez offers another experienced and reliable option. Savic, then, could be a shrewd pick-up.

Fiorentina enter Vertonghen race

Jan Vertonghen’s career at Spurs seems to be over. After a tremendously successful eight years in north London, the Belgian looks set to leave the club at the end of the season when his current contract expires.

The 32-year-old has attracted interest from several clubs, the latest of which is Serie A outfit, Fiorentina. Per TMW via Tribal Football, Fiorentina have entered the race to sign Vertonghen on a free transfer this summer as they look to bolster their defensive options.

In April, Vertonghen said that he is keeping his options open, though made special mention to a potential Spanish or Italian move.

“I want to sign with the right club. It could be Spurs, or another club,” he told Belgian TV channel Play Sports. “I really want to continue at the top level for a few more years and I would like to play European football next season.

“Since January, a number of clubs have come forward with serious proposals. The Spanish and Italian leagues are the most obvious for the time being, but I will keep all options open.”

Kane excited about Bergwijn, Fernandes link-up

With the Premier League now having set a date for its return, players, fans, and coaches are all beginning to dream of what playing might be like during the final weeks of the season. And few are more eager to get back to action than Harry Kane, who previously thought he might miss the entire season after undergoing surgery on a torn hamstring.

With the campaign delayed by three months, however, Kane will get to play again, and he is particularly excited about linking up with new signings Steven Bergwijn and Gedson Fernandes, the pair having arrived in January after Kane suffered his injury.

“I got injured on January 1 so I haven't seen too much of Gedson or Stevie, playing with or getting that connection,” he told the club’s YouTube channel. “I have been watching them play, it has been long enough without a game, especially when you have got top players who are new to the club and you want to be on the pitch with them.

“I am looking forward to it, I am looking forward to it, the squad is looking good, everyone is fully fit and ready to go. We will be working hard between now and the first game and hopefully we can finish strong in the last nine games.”

Kane also said that he will be fully fit when he returns.

“From the hamstring point of view, it is great to be able to give it a bit more rest,” he said. “I have not played a game for six months now, it has been a long, long time.

“From an injury point of view I'm normal, I'm fully fit. It will take a while to get back to the team training and feeling that again because I haven't done that for six months or so. I am feeling food, I am feeling sharp.”
