Atlanta rapper Trouble shot, killed

ATLANTA — Atlanta rapper Trouble was shot and killed Sunday morning in Rockdale County, according to police.

The 34-year-old, whose real name was Mariel Semonte Orr and who was also known as Skoob, was found lying on the ground by Rockdale County sheriff’s deputies around 3:20 a.m. at the Lake St. James Apartments on St. James Drive, according to a news release.

The rapper was taken to a hospital, where he died from his gunshot wound, police said.

Investigators believe the rapper was visiting a woman at the Conyers apartment complex when he was shot once in the chest, according to the sheriff’s office. No arrests have been made, but the sheriff’s office said they have issued an arrest warrant for a suspect, identified as 33-year-old Jamichael Jones of Atlanta.

According to authorities, Jones knew the woman Orr was visiting, but Jones and Orr did not know each other. A sheriff’s spokesperson described the shooting as a “domestic situation.”

In addition to a charge of felony murder, Jones is wanted on charges of home invasion and aggravated assault.

Trouble released his debut mixtape “December 17th” in 2011, which included the song “Bussin” and later featured rappers Yo Gotti and Waka Flocka on the remix. His first major album, “Edgewood” with producer Mike Will Made It, came seven years later and included appearances by other high-profile artists such as Offset, Quavo, Fetty Wap, The Weeknd and Drake.

His latest album, “Thug Luv,” featuring collaborations with 2 Chainz, Jeezy, Boosie Badazz and City Girls, was released in 2020.

The hip-hop community took to Twitter to express their grief as news of Trouble’s death began to spread Sunday.

“Happy to be able to have met u laugh wit u make history with you and give u a real opportunity you deserved, still 1 of my favorite rappers out the city, rest easy broadie,” Mike Will Made It wrote on Instagram.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office at 770-278-8188 or 770-843-7647.
