Atlanta police officers pull man from burning car in bodycam video

A police officer's bodycam filmed the moment he and a colleague pulled a man from a burning car.   

The vehicle erupted into flames after after it hit a metal utility pole, police in Atlanta, Georgia said.  

Bystanders tried to pull the people out of the wreck but weren't able to free the passenger in the front.

After they arrived on the scene, the officers used a fire extinguisher to subdue the flames and drag the man out. 

"We are extremely proud of the actions of these officers," the force said in a statement. "They acted quickly and with determination and ultimately were able to remove the passenger before he sustained further injury."

"We are also thankful for the actions of the citizens who stopped and assisted immediately after the accident. This accident could have been much worse than it was where it not for the actions of the citizens and officers who put aside concern for their own safety and acted to help those in need."

Three people were taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries.
