Athlone Town's Taner Dogan scores outrageous lobbed goal from half-way line against Drogheda United

Athlone Town pulled off a shock 2-0 win against Drogheda United on Friday night and scored an incredible goal in the process.

American Taner Dogan spotted Drogheda goalkeeper David Odumosu off his line and went for a lob from the half-way line in the First Division clash and amazingly the ball went into the back of the net.

It doubled Athlone's lead in the game and wrapped up all three points for them, resulting in the Drogs dropping to second in the league as Bray Wanderers returned to the top of the table.

The victory was just Athlone's third in the league this season and kept them in eighth position.

Three rounds of fixtures are still to be played in the First Division with Tim Clancy's side two points behind the Seagulls in the table.

Drogheda's remaining games consist of an away clash with Galway, a home fixture vs Wexford Youths and another fixture on the road against Cabinteely.

Meanwhile, Bray face Shamrock Rovers II away next before a home game against Galway. Their final match of the season is away to Athlone.
