Athletics: Hannah is East Kilbride AC's golden girl in Cross Country

Hannah Anderson is celebrating after claiming gold at the West District Cross Country Championships – and earning her first Scotland vest.

The 17-year-old was in fine form at Balloch Castle Country Park on the banks of Loch Lomond, as she claimed the women’s under-17 title.

Hannah, from Strathaven, had to overcome treacherous conditions, keeping her footing on the muddy course that featured uphill starts and a downhill finish.

The EK Athletic Club star said: “It was such a surreal moment when I crossed the line. I knew I was in good form going into the race because I’d come third in the Liverpool Trust Challenge just before it.

“I came third in this race a couple of years ago and last year I was injured and couldn’t perform as well as I wanted to last season, so to win the gold feels great. It means a lot.”

Hannah has also been selected to represent Scotland’s U20s at the Celtic National Cross Country Championships next month off the back of her display.

She added: “I’ve never had a Scotland vest before, so I’m just going to enjoy it and hope this will be the first of many.”
