A team of six from the district education department visited DAV Public School, Pakhowal Road, to take stock of the case in which a Class 8 student allegedly jumped off the fifth floor of the school building, on Friday.
The team was headed by deputy district education officer (DDEO), Ashish Kumar, who reached the school at 9am. The investigation went on for four hours.
The team recorded the statements of the principal Satwant Kaur Bhullar and the four teachers who were booked in the case.
The team also acquired CCTV footage from the school authorities and visited the fifth floor, the alleged crime scene.
The case so far
On Thursday, state education minister, Daljit Singh Cheema, had directed the district education officer, Paramjit Kaur Chahal, to submit a report at the earliest. Soon after, Chahal formed a six-member team to investigate the case.
On Tuesday, five days after the incident, Atharva’s father Atul recorded his statement with ADCP Ratan Singh Brar. In his statement, Gupta demanded that police should lodge an FIR against the teachers, following which Brar directed ASI Balkar Singh to get the boy’s injury report from the DMCH and register a case against the teachers.

Balbir Singh Dhol, director of public instructions (secondary), visited the ailing Atharva and Class 12 student Jagdeep Singh at Dayanand College and Medical Hospital on Friday. Dhol said, “I met both the students and they are both recovering. Atharva’s parents told me that earlier the school authorities were providing financial aid but are not doing so for the last two days. So I have spoken to the principal and she has assured that they will provide aid for the student’s treatment. We will also ensure that Jagdeep is provided special coaching so that his studies don’t suffer. We handed over a cheque for Rs 50,000 to his parents.”
