Manchester City travel to the San Siro to face Atalanta in the Champions League on Wednesday, with a potentially season-defining league match against Liverpool on Sunday at the back of the players’ minds.
Pep Guardiola’s team are top of Group C with three wins from three games, including a 5-1 dismantling of Atalanta at home in their last European outing, but the Spanish manager said this week he would not prioritise the Liverpool clash when selecting his side for Wednesday’s match.
That remains to be seen, but what is certain is that City will have been buoyed by their two late goals on Saturday when they came from behind to defeat Southampton.
Meanwhile, Atalanta – who are bottom of the group with three losses from three games – bounced back from their defeat to City last month with a 7-1 Serie A victory against 10-man Udinese and a 2-2 draw with Napoli, but most recently suffered a 2-0 loss to Cagliari after going down to 10 men.

David Silva’s presence for the visitors is up in the air as the Spaniard sustained a muscle issue against Southampton, while Phil Foden will miss out through suspension after being sent off in the reverse fixture. Aymeric Laporte, Leroy Sane, Rodri and Oleksandr Zinchenko will all be absent with injuries.
Meanwhile, Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata will miss out due to a muscle injury.
