Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini expects Manchester United to respond to Leicester defeat

Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini doesn't think Manchester United are in a 'crisis' amid the Reds' poor run of results.

United lost 4-2 to Leicester at the weekend and external pressure is now building on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

That defeat meant United have now won just one of their last five games and that win was against Villarreal in the Champions League last month, when Solskjaer's side delivered an utterly unconvincing display before being saved by Cristiano Ronaldo's late winner.

Although there was an immediate inquest within the United dressing room after the 4-2 defeat at King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon, Atalanta boss Gasperini revealed on Tuesday that he actually thinks that United played well in the first half.

The Italian admitted that he does expect to see a positive response from United after that poor result, though.

“I think they’re going to want to react aren’t they quite clearly," Gasperini said.

"They’re going to want to pull out a really good reaction in front of their fans.

"It’s true to say that perhaps they’ve had a couple of setbacks of late but by the same token I saw the game against Leicester & in the first half in particular they played really well. You have to bear in mind that sometimes you’re playing against good teams.

“I think that the fact of the matter is we’re playing against a top team. We are playing a top team and I don’t think they’re in crisis or difficulty from that point of view. I don’t think that’s the case at all."
