Atalanta boss confirms Amad Diallo's "difficulties" after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer message

Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini has appeared to confirm that young winger Amad Diallo will eventually link up with Manchester United in this transfer window, after some "difficulties" over the teenager's move.

Diallo signed for United in a deal that could potentially reach £40million just before the closure of the summer transfer window.

It was initially agreed that he would stay at the Italian club until January, and the 18-year-old has managed two appearances from the bench for the senior team this season.

Diallo played for the final 13 minutes of Atalanta's 2-0 Serie A defeat to Verona at the end of November, before following that up with 22 minutes off the bench against FC Midtjylland in the Champions League a few days later.

Those matches follow on from three senior outings last season, with Diallo scoring his first professional goal in the first of those - a 7-1 win over Udinese last October.

The young winger's performances across both campaigns had led Gasperini and the club to hope that they would be able to hold onto him for a little bit longer despite his switch to United, but that now appears to be unlikely.

Speaking to Italian publication Corriere Dello Sport, Gasperini said: " There seemed to be transfer difficulties but as soon as they are unlocked the player clearly goes to Manchester United."

Those 'difficulties' are now seemingly certain to be overcome, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer telling the youngster that he plans on putting him straight into the United first-team picture upon his arrival.

The right side of United's attack is an area that the Norwegian has wanted to improve for some time, hence the chase for Jadon Sancho, and it is to be hoped that Diallo proves a worthy addition in that area.
