AT&T defeats Justice Department bid to overturn Time Warner deal

A federal appeals judge ruled Tuesday that AT&T’s merger with Time Warner can stand, defeating anti-trust regulators and reaffirming an earlier ruling that allowed the companies to merge, CNBC reports.

Why it matters: Media deals have been the subject of anti-trust rhetoric in President Trump's administration. The two companies have been operating as one since the deal closed in June 2018, in spite of the Justice Department's efforts to block it. The Justice Department does not plan to appeal the decision, according to DOJ spokesperson Jeremy Edwards.
