Schools in Vienna will remain closed and residents are being urged to remain home as authorities search for other possible shooters from Monday's terrorist attack that left four people dead, including the suspect, officials said.
The big picture: Three people were confirmed killed and 15 others injured in the shooting that spanned six different locations in Vienna, Austrian authorities said on Tuesday morning. A suspect was also killed by officers at the scene.
- Interior Minister Karl Nehammer tweeted that the suspect, who was armed with an explosives belt, which turned out to be fake, and an assault rifle was a known sympathyzer of the Islamic State militant group.
- The suspect's apartment was being searched by a SWAT team, police said.

- Several gunmen opened fire near a synagogue in Vienna on Monday night, killing two males and one female and wounding others, including a police officer, officials said. The wounded were being treated in the hospital.
- The head of the Vienna’s Jewish community said in a Twitter post that it remains unknown whether Seitenstettengasse Temple, Vienna’s main synagogue, was a target, but that it was closed at the time of the shooting.
- The Austrian Armed Forces were brought in to help police with the response to the attack, Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, said in a tweet.
