At least one death linked to AstraZeneca vaccine being probed by Scots Government

At least one death linked to the AstraZeneca vaccine is being probed by the Scottish Government.

The Sunday Mail has learned 12 cases of rare blood clots have been recorded north of the Border after taking the jag.

And ministers have admitted a “very small number have died”, while stressing the tiny risk given 1.84million people to have received a first dose.

A Scottish Government spokesman said: “The latest The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) update confirms that there have been 12 confirmed cases in Scotland of the rare syndrome of thrombosis and thrombocytopenia following recent vaccination with the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine.

“Of these, a very small number have died – our thoughts and sympathy are with those affected and their families.

“Due to patient confidentiality and the small numbers involved, we are not able to release the age, sex or health board locality of the cases.”

About 700,000 people under 30 will be given alternatives to the Oxford University-developed jag.

Across the UK, the number of blood clot cases linked to the vaccine has risen to 168 out of 21.2million people who have received it – with 32 deaths reported.
