At least four injured in knife attack at Hong Kong shopping mall

At least four people have been injured in a knife attack at a large shopping mall in Hong Kong.

The attacker, who has not yet been identified, was subdued by people inside the CityPlaza mall, the BBC reports.

CityPlaza mall, in the Tai Koo district on Hong Kong Island, was the scene of an anti-government protest on Sunday and riot police were in attendance.

Local media suggests the incident came about due to political differences and the attacker injured four people before being taken down by an angry crowd.

Reports also suggest that one of the injured was a local councillor who had his ear partially cut off.

The recent pro-democracy campaign initially began with protesters demonstrating against proposals to allow extradition to mainland China.

Since the proposals were dropped last month, the protests widened to include more demands including universal suffrage.
