At least five people have been killed and 284 rescued after a ferry burst into flames off the coast of Indonesia.
Flames consumed the KM Barcelona VA vessel — carrying more than 280 passengers and travelling towards the city of Manado — within minutes after a fire broke out at around 1.30pm local time today.
Rescue efforts continue as emergency crews scramble to find and account for every missing passenger. The cause of the blaze is still unknown.
The Indonesian Navy said everyone onboard the KM III Barcelona has been removed from the ship.
Footage shows passengers, many wearing life jackets, some without, jumping into the water to try and save themselves.
Screams and cries are heard in the background as fire tears through the vessel and thick black smoke billows into the sky.
Dozens of passengers can be seen bobbing in the water as they try and get as much distance from the ferry as possible.
A woman who appears to be recording the burning ferry can be heard crying uncontrollably.
Passing fishing boats from the nearby Talise Island rescued some of the survivors from the water.
