FRESNO, Calif. _ At least nine people were wounded Sunday night in what Fresno police described as a "mass casualty shooting" in southeast Fresno.
The exact number of dead wasn't immediately clear, but Lt. Bill Dooley told The Fresno Bee at least nine people had been shot in the backyard of a southeast Fresno home near Caesar and Lamona avenues. Dooley said it was a "mass casualty" incident.
No information on the shooter or shooters was immediately available.
Police believe a group of people were gathered at the home, possibly watching football when the violence erupted around 6 p.m.
Multiple neighbors, who declined to be identified for safety reasons, said they heard multiple gunshots.
