At least 28 civilians killed by pro-Assad air strikes 'near school'

At least 28 civilians have been killed by pro-Assad rocket and air strikes near a school in the city of Douma, Syria.

The heavy bombardment targeted a besieged Syrian rebel stronghold near a school, according to the UK based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Observatory, also said air strikes hit the nearby town of Saqba.

"One of the air strikes on Douma hit near a school, killing the school's principal," Mr Rahman told AFP.

There are reports children were killed in the attack.

Video shows people carrying children away from the rubble.

In the footage, a man can be seen walking away from the debris with a small child.

It is unclear whether the attacks were carried out by Syrian or Russian warplanes.

There are reports cluster bombs were used.

At least eight people were killed yesterday when a car bomb expoloded outside a hospital in Homs.
