At least 165 people diagnosed with coronavirus have died in Greater Manchester hospitals

At least 165 people diagnosed with the Covid-19 virus have now died in hospitals across Greater Manchester, the NHS said on Friday.

Twenty-five more deaths have now been recorded, NHS England data published today showed.

On Thursday, the figure was at least 140.

In the UK, there have been a total of 3,605 coronavirus deaths in hospitals - an increase of 684 people compared to NHS statistics published on Thursday.

It's the highest day-on-day rise since the outbreak began.

Some of the larger trusts run several hospitals in Greater Manchester.

The latest figures were revealed as Buckingham Palace confirmed the Queen will address the nation over coronavirus in a recorded televised broadcast at 8pm on Sunday.

The rare broadcast, recorded this week at Windsor Castle, was called 'a special broadcast to the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth' by the palace.
