PHILADELPHIA — A large house fire in Philadelphia’s Fairmount section left at least 13 people dead and two others injured early Wednesday morning, authorities said.
Seven of those killed were children, according to Philadelphia Fire Department First Deputy Commissioner Craig Murphy, a number he described as “dynamic.”
“This is without a doubt one of the most tragic days in our city’s history. The loss of so many people in such a tragic way,” Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney said during a press briefing. “Losing so many kids is just devastating.”
