'At least 12' drivers go through M5 slip road closure as 'lives put at risk'

Highways England has slammed drivers who went through a slip road closure on the M5.

The highways officers closed the exit slip road at Junction 22 (Burnham-on-Sea) of the M5 southbound at about 1.20pm today (January 30) due to a broken-down lorry.

Highways England tweeted shortly at 1.42pm: "We have just witnessed at least 12 vehicles drive through our closure putting the lives of our traffic officers and recovery agents at risk.

"This is illegal and completely unacceptable driving. Please obey our closures, they are there for a reason! #PoorDriving #RoadSafety."

It gave a further update at 2.05pm: "The slip road is now open however will need to be closed again at some point for recovery to continue."
