What’s new: Beijing reported Friday a case of an asymptomatic woman who had visited Xinfadi market where the latest flare-up in the Chinese capital first emerged in mid-June, and had tested negative for the coronavirus three times until her infection was confirmed on Thursday. 204 people who had recently been in close contact with the woman have now been put under quarantine and medical observation.
Videos widely reposted on social media show the 24-year-old woman crying at the shopping mall she was visiting in the western Beijing district of Shijingshan when she received the positive nucleic acid test result by phone Thursday. She was subsequently transferred to hospital by local health authorities and confirmed as an asymptomatic case. The shopping mall was evacuated and immediately closed.
What’s more: The patient visited Xinfadi market on Jun. 14 and first tested negative for Covid-19 on Jun. 15. She had a miscarriage the following day and was put in home quarantine after a day of treatment in hospital. On Jun. 18, she developed Covid-19 symptoms but tested negative again the next day. During home quarantine, she broke an electronic seal on her door and went out multiple times, according to the Beijing municipal center for disease prevention and control.
On Jun. 30, she tested negative a third time during a community check. On Jul. 2, at the shopping mall, she visited a hairdresser, went shopping for clothes and ate at a Japanese noodle restaurant before being notified of her infection.
