Aswin scoffs at sex in Lumpini Park claim

A titillating tweet from a jogger claiming to have seen people having sex in Lumpini Park has led Bangkok governor Aswin Kwanmuang to deny that such activities take place.

He said he exercised twice a week in the country's most famous public park, in the city centre, and had never seen such acts.

Pol Gen Aswin yesterday challenged the person who posted the message, saying he would give the tweeter 100,000 baht if he could prove it was true.

His comment followed a tweet by @jiji_winkieboy on Tuesday who claimed he saw a group of people having sex in an area away from the main paths while he was jogging.

"I thought they were looking for Pokemons," the message said -- a reference to popular location-based game, Pokeman Go, in which players try to find cartoon characters on their mobile phones.

The location, according to the Twitter message, was the Octagon Pavilion.

Reactions to the message were divided -- one side confirming they had seen such acts happen, and the other accusing the tweeter of just looking for attention.

However, the city's director of public parks, Arom Wongmaha, and a security officer confirmed the tweet was true, according to local media. Ms Arom said the sex romp was reported on Tuesday around 3pm, and all involved were foreigners.

The security officer said he was told about it -- and found them.

"I was informed by my staff about a group of people behaving indecently at the pavilion. I rushed there and approached them," he said. "I gave them a warning and they put on their clothes and left," he added.
