Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut Soichi Noguchi held an online press conference on Tuesday Japan time ahead of his next spaceflight, which is due to launch in five days.

"I would like to make this a mission in which we can share together with the people of Japan our dreams and hopes for a new future," Noguchi, 55, said at the Kennedy Space Center launch site in Florida.

Noguchi arrived at the space center on Monday Japan time to inspect the mission's Crew Dragon commercial spacecraft.

Revealing his state of mind prior to hurtling into space, Noguchi said: "I feel both the same thrill and anxiety that elementary school children experience when they can't get to sleep the night before sports day."
