Astronaut Soichi Noguchi will start his third stay in space when the U.S. spaceship Crew Dragon is launched at 3:40 p.m. JST on Oct. 31, officials at the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency said Tuesday.
Noguchi, 55, will join the first non-test mission of the private spaceship, which will be launched from Florida and fly to the International Space Station (ISS).
It will be the first official flight of Crew Dragon, which has successfully completed one crewed test flight between the Earth and the ISS. It will carry Noguchi and three American astronauts. Noguchi stayed in space in 2005 and from 2009 to 2010. This time his stay at the ISS is expected to last six months.
