AstraZeneca cancels meeting with EU amid vaccine supply dispute

Vaccine-maker AstraZeneca has cancelled a meeting with the EU today amid the production dispute.

Top EU officials were scheduled to meet representatives of the pharmaceutical giant on Wednesday evening.

But an EU spokesperson has confirmed this morning that this meeting has been cancelled by the vaccine-maker.

AstraZeneca's vaccine will arrive in Ireland by mid-February if it gets approval by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) – the body in charge of making sure vaccines are safe.

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly said on Monday that over-70s will start getting the jab in February if it gets EMA authorisation.

But delivery of the vaccine in March is likely to be "considerably lower than what was originally stated by the company," he said.
