Astonishing moment man flings himself onto bonnet of stationary car

Astonishing dash-cam footage shows the bizarre moment a man jumps onto the bonnet of a stationary car.

He staggers into the road and appears to deliberately fall onto bemused Rebecca Parkinson's Renault Clio in Shaw Lane, Whiston.

Dressed in a rain jacket, the man stays on the bonnet for a few seconds before being pushed off by Rebecca's boyfriend, Rhys Williams, 38.

He then runs off.

Rebecca, a 28-year-old health care assistant at Liverpool's Royal Hospital, was in the car with her son Patrick, nine, and niece Melanie, also nine at the time of the incident last night at around 7.20pm.

She told the Liverpool ECHO: "I'd just picked the kids up from cubs and was driving back home.

"It was raining and I saw this man at the side of the road pulling on a fence so I slowed down.

"He then ran into the road so I stopped and he just jumped on the bonnet. My boyfriend then got out.

"The kids were upset in the back of the car."

Police said they had received several reports of a 30-year-old man throwing himself onto car bonnets in the area.

An ambulance crew arrived at the scene and found no evidence of any serious injuries.

The ECHO understands the matter is being considered as some sort of foolish prank and not an attempt at a 'cash for crash'.

Some of the man's friends were seen a short distance away, on the side of the road, laughing.

Luckily Rebecca got a dash-cam for Christmas and captured the whole incident on camera.

The video has since gone viral after being shared on local Facebook site Rainhill Rocks.

Rebecca added: "His behaviour was definitely erratic. If he has mental health problems he needs to get help."

Rebecca, from Whiston, warned people to be aware of similar incidents and urged drivers to get a dash-cam.

She said: "I didn't think anything would come of it as it was so ridiculous - then I heard he had gone to hospital. I gave the footage to the police but have not heard anything back yet."

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We received reports of a 30-year-old man throwing himself onto car bonnets in Whiston on Tuesday, 11 June, in Shaw Lane at around 7.30pm.

"The man was spoken to by officers and an ambulance crew attended to assess the man who was well enough to return home."
