Aston Villa vs West Brom: What time does it start, TV channel, how can I watch online, team news, predicted line-ups, h2h, odds and more

West Brom were beaten by Aston Villa in a massive West Midlands derby in the first leg of their Championship play-off semi-final.

The Baggies went in front when Dwight Gayle reacted quickly to a mistake in the Villa defence and slotted the ball home.

But Gayle was later sent off after Villa had hit back with two quickfire goals, with Tammy Abraham's penalty earning a 2-1 win.

What an entertaining opening game of the day.

We'll have more for you in a couple of hours when we revisit 'Spygate' as Derby host Leeds in the first leg of their semi-final.

Until then, thanks for joining me.

Villa manager Dean Smith has had his say.

He said: “I think we deserved to win the game.

"I thought Albion came to sit behind the ball and slow the game down, and take their time over throw-ins and goal kicks. We had to try to open them up.

"We found it difficult, we were nowhere near our best but we found a way to win. It took a good strike to open them up. I don’t think West Brom will play like that at the Hawthorns on Tuesday!"
Aston Villa midfielder, named man of the match, Jack Grealish, speaking to Sky Sports: "Every time I come on the pitch, I look at the players around me and I think we're going to win.

"It's a good win. But West Brom are a great side and we know it's going to be a hostile atmosphere at The Hawthorns on Tuesday."

What a beauty it was from Hourihane too, smashed straight into the top left corner from his left boot.

No chance for Sam Johnstone.

Brilliant five minute comeback from the home side gives them the advantage to take to the Hawthorns on Tuesday evening.

Wonderful strike first from Conor Hourihane and then Tammy Abraham fired home from the spot to give Aston Villa the victory.

The visitors will feel hard done by having worked so hard for 70 minutes, negating the threat of the hosts and hitting on the counter through Dwight Gayle when Glenn Whelan gifted him the chance!

To make matters worse, Gayle subsequently got himself sent off for two bookable offences. First he was booked for time wasting and, then, for sliding in on Villa keeper Jed Steer.

This is the first victory for Villa over their West Midlands rivals since March 2015.

There are seven minutes of additional time to account for all the shenanigans.

88: Deary me.

Gayle has been walking a tightrope since his booking for time wasting and he's needlessly got himself sent off now.

What a terrible 15 minutes for the Baggies.

The ball is driven across the box but Steer is always getting it.

Gayle, though, slides in on Steer searching, very late, nowhere near the ball and that's his second yellow!

That's a huge body blow to West Brom's chances of reaching the play-off final!
RED CARD! ASTON VILLA 2-1 WEST BROM (Gayle)

82: Well well!

Mad scramble in the Villa box and it looks like Abraham has pushed Holgate to the ground!

Surely a pen but not given!

Abraham had been down clutching his head but he's now managed to get to his feet.

It's Abraham, who's had a quiet time of it thus far, to step up!

He shoots... and sends Johnstone the wrong way!

Nicely driven pen into the right hand corner and the comeback is complete for Villa!

It had been coming but what a strike!

Villa build dangerously outside the box once more and Grealish dribbles up and down the right channel.

He then pulls the ball back for Hourihane who is in space and fires a rocket into the top left corner of the net!
GOAL! ASTON VILLA 1-1 WEST BROM (Hourihane 75)
