Joe Willock was handed a start at Villa Park as Newcastle United looked for their first win of the new season.
The £25million arrival from Arsenal has not had a full pre-season but the midfielder was deemed fit enough to take his place in the starting line-up against Aston Villa.
With Jonjo Shelvey out with a calf injury Willock started alongside Isaac Hayden in the engine room.
Steve Bruce also handed Fabian Schar and Jamaal Lascelles places in his defence while Callum Wilson was also in the team despite not being pictured at training this week.
Ciaran Clark and Emil Krafth paid the price for Newcastle's defensive lapse last weekend against West Ham.
