Arsenal will be looking to end the current run of games on a high before the start of the international break when they travel to Aston Villa this weekend. Mikel Arteta is off the back of a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool, where Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino’s goals put a sour tone on an otherwise good performance.
The Gunners still hold all the cards in the race for fourth place though, currently sitting in the final Champions League spot one point ahead of Manchester United in fifth with two extra games. A win over the Villans would guarantee that the side would go into the international break in fourth ahead of a huge final stretch of matches.
Standing in their way is an old adversary in Steven Gerrard, who looks set for a mid-table finish with his Aston Villa side. They currently sit ninth in the league, 14 points clear of relegation and 10 points behind Wolves in eighth.

The Villains will have one eye on preparations for next season, though they will want more consistency in terms of their form. Gerrard has guided his side to three wins and two losses in their last five.
Discussing Aston Villa before the match, Arteta said: “He’s changed some positive things, he’s changed the shape that the team is doing. He’s brought a different energy to that stadium again I think and I’m very impressed with what he’s doing.”
