Aston Villa transfer for Dundee United star could spark ace's early Motherwell exit

Motherwell star Tony Watt's exit from Fir Park could be accelerated by Premier League club Aston Villa handing millions to Dundee United.

Watt has signed a pre-contract with the Tannadice club and will leave the Steelmen once his contract expires this summer.

Talks have been ongoing over whether the striker will swap Motherwell for Dundee United this month but nothing has been agreed yet.

The Tannadice side will move for Watt, according to the Daily Record, when Kerr Smith's exit to Aston Villa is finalised.

United are set to land set nearly £2 million from the big-money deal - which includes a number of add ons - for the teenage defender.

The 17-year-old is down south to complete his medical ahead of the move and it is expected to be confirmed imminently.

Once that is made official, Dundee United will look to strike a six-figure deal to make sure Watt is their player for their Premiership return against St Mirren next Tuesday.

Motherwell are back in action after the winter break on the same day against Ross County.
