Aston Villa to beat Leeds United to £13m signing as released Swansea City star set for return to boyhood club - transfer rumours

Here are the latest transfer rumours from around the Championship on June 22.

Fer to move home

Released Swansea City star Leroy Fer is closing in on a return to boyhood club Feyenoord, according to Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad.

The 29-year-old was released by the Swans this summer after three years. Feyenoord manager Jaap Stam is keen on a physically opposing midfielder, with Fer fitting the bill.

Leeds to miss out

Aston Villa are now favourites to beat Leeds United to the signing of Helder Costa from Wolves.

The £13m Portugese winger fell out of favour last season despite being a key man in Wolves' promotion in 2017/18.

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa is a known admirer of the 25-year-old and had been looking to seal a season-long loan deal for Costa, but the bookies have now slashed Villa’s odds of signing the player from 10/1 to 6/4.

And the Birmingham Mail claim he looks more likely to end up at Villa Park.

Sheffield United poach Freeman

Newly promoted Sheffield United are in the market for QPR midfielder Luke Freeman, and are prepared to pay up to £4 million for his services, claim The Sun .

Manager Chris Wilder hopes to have Freeman on board in the next two days, with the 27-year-old desperate to play in the top flight.

Freeman has been, by some stretch, QPR’s best player this season - racking up seven goals and six assists in the Championship.

Middlesbrough scout France

Middlesbrough are interested in bringing Caen striker Enzo Crivelli to the Riverside, according to the Teeside Gazette .

Crivelli, who notched six goals in 35 appearances for Caen last season, has reportedly been on the Teesider’s radar for some time - and may help to bolster their attacking options and provide a replacement option for the departing Rudy Gestede.

Blackburn battle for Norwich keeper

Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle are battling it out to sign Norwich City keeper Jon McCracken.

Football Insider also confirm the Scottish youth keeper is being watched closely by Hibernian, showing real prospect at his level and turning the heads of various scouts who seem impressed by the youngster’s abilities.

McCracken was part of the matchday squads throughout last season for Norwich but is yet to make his senior debut, having joined the Premier League side from Hamilton in 2016.

Birmingham City star confirms departure

Birmingham City youngster Beryly Lubala has decided to part ways with club after failing to agree terms on a new one year contract extension.

The 21-year-old took to Instagram to announce his departure, writing an emotional goodbye message.

“I would just like to say I’ve had a great five seasons at Birmingham City, however after weeks of negotiations unfortunately me and the club could not come to an agreement regarding a new contract,” said Lubala.

“Thank you to all the players and staff that have helped me at my time at the club and all the bluenoses for welcoming me into the family.”
