Aston Villa suffer huge injury blow ahead of Bristol City game

Dean Smith says it is doubtful that Kortney Hause will be fit to face Bristol City tomorrow.

The defender hobbled off during Aston Villa's win over Sheffield Wednesday last weekend and missed out on the trip to Rotherham United in midweek.

And Smith said it is unlikely he will face the Robins in tomorrow's big play-off clash - which could be a blow after Tyrone Mings was sent off in the win over the Millers.

He said: "He's going to struggle.

"I'll leave it til as late as possible - it's looking doubtful at the moment but I want to have a look at him in the morning.

"He's got a hip flexor problem which can affect the abdominal side of it but, if not, we've got people who can go and play there like Mile showed on Wednesday evening.

"Hutton has trained for the last week or so, so he's available for selection. Tommy Elphick has trained, probably not near enough to be involved."

One player who could feature is former Robin Jonathan Kodjia, who scored in the win over Rotherham.

Smith said: "I thought his performance for 45 minutes was excellent. He gave us what we wanted and just what we needed at that time, him and Tammy kept the ball in the opposition half and he got his goal as well.

"He put in a real tireless effort so it's given me a real problem."

Smith is expecting a difficult test against a Robins side who he saw beat Villa's local rivals West Brom on Tuesday.

He said: "It will be a tough game, I went to watch them on Tuesday.

"They've obviously had a day's extra rest than ourselves, they were comfortable after 20 minutes, they didn't have to work too hard for their goals but West Brom came back at them.

"They're on a decent run themselves, they were fortunate at Middlesbrough but they've put in some really good performances to go to Middlesbrough and Sheffield United to get those wins.

"It will be a tough game for us but one we're looking forward to."

He added: "They've got good players there so when they've got good players it always makes for a good game.

"I've got quite a good record against Bristol City from my days at Brentford so hopefully we can take that into the game."
