Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan not a priority for Sheffield United in news that could be good for Bristol City

Re-signing Scott Hogan is not a priority for Sheffield United.

The striker was on loan at the Blades from Aston Villa for the second half of the season but they have decided to look at other options this summer after winning promotion to the Premier League.

Bristol City were said to be keen on the 27-year-old in January but lost out to the Blades in the race for his signature.

He rediscovered his form at Bramall Lane netting two goals in five starts - including one in a 3-2 defeat to the Robins in March.

Yet the Sheffield Star report that Hogan is not a priority for the Blades this summer, and instead the likes of Brentford's Neal Maupay and Oli McBurnie at Swansea City are being looked at.

The Blades have also been linked to another striker the Robins targeted in January - Middlesbrough's Britt Assombalonga.

With Villa also winning promotion to the Premier League, it appears unlikely that Hogan has much of a future in Claret & Blue, either, and he could well be available this summer.

However, he is on high wages and has two years left on his contract, so, if the Robins are still interested in him, then he will not come cheaply.

One thing is clear from his spell at Sheffield United, though - even though things may have gone wrong at Villa, Hogan is still a player with Championship quality and experience.
