Aston Villa stars could miss Everton game as international row erupts

Aston Villa duo Emiliano Martinez and Emiliano Buendia are caught in an international row concerning their potential involvement against Everton later this month.

The Blues are set to travel to the Midlands shortly after the current international break, taking on Dean Smith's side on September 18th.

Meanwhile over the coming days Argentina will play Venezuela, Brazil and Bolivia in three World Cup qualifiers all taking place in South America.

And the involvement of two Aston Villa players has been a hot topic of discussion.

Any players taking part in those matches would be forced to isolate for ten days upon their return, leading Premier League clubs to deny the release of their stars for respective games for their countries.

However, Villa recently released a statement saying: “With the permission of the club in accordance with FIFA’s international match call-up rules, Martinez and Buendia have agreed to make themselves available for Argentina’s first two World Cup qualifying matches against Venezuela and Brazil, but will not take part in the third international match against Bolivia.”

That would mean the pair would miss a clash with Chelsea immediately after the international break, but bring them back to action for the match against Everton.

However, speaking in a press conference on Wednesday, Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni had other ideas.

The manager claimed that the Villa pair would still be with his side for the game against Bolivia, which would rule them out of involvement against Everton later this month.

Scaloni said: "Regarding the clubs, we never had a refusal. We spoke and we reached a conclusion that they had to come.

“We gave the list for the three matches and there was no doubt. The players are here for the three matches.”

According to the Mirror, both Dean Smith and Villa chief executive Christian Purslow are said to be extremely angry at the decision and will attempt to intervene.

No Everton players have travelled to South America to take part in World Cup qualifiers for their country despite Richarlison and Salomon Rondon being selection for Brazil and Venezuela respectively.

Yerry Mina also withdrew from the Colombia squad recently due to an injury sustained with the Blues which kept him out-of-action against Brighton last weekend.
