Aston Villa splash the cash on Brentford star amid Kalvin Phillips rumours

Aston Villa have raided the Championship for a young English star, amid continued rumours of their interest in Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

Villa boss Dean Smith is supposedly very keen on securing Phillips for their upcoming Premier League season, yet according to the Sun on Sunday, the Whites have slapped a huge £30million price tag on the young midfielder.

The huge fee is perhaps a sign that the Whites are desperate to keep hold of Phillips, and the club is in discussions with the midfield enforcer to try and agree on a new deal.

Meanwhile, Villa have wasted no time in snapping up another bright English talent, in Brentford central defender Ezri Konsa.

The highly-rated centre-back has completed a £12million switch away from Brentford, perhaps further explaining Pontus Jansson's move to Griffin Park.

The Birmingham club have been splashing the cash already this summer, completing the permanent signing of Tyrone Mings for a fee of £21.5million plus add-ons, and signing left-back Matt Targett from Southampton for a reported £14million.

Leeds United fans will hope that their summer spree doesn't include another raid on the Championship for their star midfielder.
