Aston Villa receive major play-off boost after controversy but Leeds United hit with charge

Aston Villa have been handed a boost after Anwar El Ghazi's suspension was overturned.

The Villa star was sent off in Sunday's controversial draw with Leeds after a clash with Patrick Bamford.

Yet replays showed that Bamford had thrown himself to the ground, meaning El Ghazi's suspension has been cleared.

Bamford has, however, been hit with a charge for 'successful deception of a match official', and now faces a ban himself.

The FA allege that his role in getting El Ghazi sent off amounts to improper conduct, and he has until 6pm on Wednesday to respond to the charge.

Former Aston Villa hero fires warning shot at Leeds United but gives Bristol City hope

If found guilty, Bamford could be banned - meaning he may well miss out on the play-offs.

It would provide a boost to whoever finishes in the final play-off spot, which Bristol City are still in the running for.
