Aston Villa receive double injury boost ahead of Manchester United FA Cup fixture

Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins and Tyrone Mings will be available for selection against Manchester United on Monday.

United welcome Villa to Old Trafford in the FA Cup on Monday night with hopes of making a bright start to the competition.

Ralf Rangnick's side lost 1-0 to Wolves in the Premier League earlier this week, though the FA Cup could offer United a chance to kickstart their season. United last won the FA Cup at Wembley under Louis Van Gaal in 2016 thanks to Jesse Lingard's extra-time goal against Crystal Palace.

Villa have enjoyed a change in fortunes since Steven Gerrard's appointment and they will be tricky opposition, though.

The former Liverpool captain has also revealed that striker Watkins will return from injury in time for the clash while Mings will also be available.

“Ollie Watkins is due back with the group on Saturday, so that will be a welcome addition," Gerrard said.

"Tyrone Mings comes back from suspension – he’s fit, well and available. Ashley Young’s got an outside chance. Ashley's got a frustrating one where he’s still got a little bit of discomfort in his fractured toe.

"But he’s doing everything he can to get back as quick as he can. The rest is as it was.

"We’re [with Leon Bailey] four and a bit weeks post-injury and he’s progressing well, stepping up his rehab — he's focused. It was an injury in a similar area to the first one, so we have to be careful and respect that."

United's match versus Villa will be broadcast live for free on the BBC.
