Aston Villa put £40m Bournemouth star and Man Utd target David Brooks 'under consideration' in double transfer swoop

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith is keeping tabs on Wales international David Brooks.

The Sunday Mirror report that Bournemouth attacker Brooks is on Smith's wish-list this month, with the Villa Park manager keen to bolster his options in the final third.

Villa have had a largely successful opening half of the Premier League season after beating the drop by the narrowest of margins last term.

Smith has an array of creative talent on his hands in the Midlands in Jack Grealish, John McGinn and Ross Barkley, but with the latter only on loan from Chelsea, the manager is eyeing a move for Brooks.

The Cherries man, who was previously on the books at Manchester City, has been a longstanding target for cross-city rivals Manchester United, who have monitored his situation for some time. Indeed, £40million deals have mooted previously.

Tottenham too have been credited with interest in the past, but concerns over his fitness have put suitors off. It seems though that Brooks has put those issues behind him this year, featuring 23 times for club and country.

A move back to the Premier League would be good news for Wales too with the European Championships on the horizon this summer.

The Mirror add that Smith is keen to strengthen his right-hand-side options at Villa Park, despite having Anwar El Ghazi and Trezeguet to call upon. Reading teen Michael Olise is also a target for Smith this month after impressing with the Royals this season.
